    May Institute is one of the largest and most well-respected providers of services and special education schools for children and adults with autism and other special needs in Massachusetts and in the U.S. With corporate headquarters in Randolph, Mass., May operates more than 140 service locations in nine states across the country.

    Working with the Philanthropy team of five, interns will gain knowledge and project management skills by assisting with projects that help to raise funds for May’s schools and adult services programs through special events, individual giving, and corporate sponsorships.

     

     

    Responsibilities

    The Special Events/Fundraising internship experience includes a variety of opportunities to gain knowledge of nonprofit fundraising and donor stewardship. Interns will learn about and work with our staff in the following areas:

     

    • Prospect research
    • Database maintenance (Raiser’s Edge)
    • Donor communications (presentations and newsletter)
    • Special event logistics

     

    The internship will take place primarily during normal business hours (9am-5pm) but requires occasional evening and weekend availability when assisting with some of the events.  Interns will also help with general office work related to each event.

    Qualifications

    • Availability to work 10-15 flexible hours per week during fall and/or spring semesters. Could also be a year-long internship.
    • Detail-oriented, with a high level of organization and time management.
    • Strong computer skills – familiarity with PowerPoint, Word and Excel programs and social media resources (Facebook, Instagram, etc.).
    • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communications (please include 2 brief writing samples).
    • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and take initiative with minimal supervision on projects.
    • Ability to lift, stand, bend (for tasks such as filing, organizing inventory).
    • To be considered, candidates must be in their junior or senior year of college.
