May Institute has an exciting opportunity for an experienced BI visualization expert. 

In this role, you will be instrumental in working with the business users to develop dashboards, visualizations and define metrics that provide actionable insight into the business. 


The right person for this role will be able to share their expert knowledge of Tableau in order to develop others within the organization. The ideal candidate will have had experience translating opertional challenges into reporting, and will be able to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization. This is a single contributor role, with both tactical and strategic scope. The person in this role will have a direct impact on showcasing how BI can provide actionable insights as well as utilizing Tableau application systemically. 


Initially the Tableau Developer will work in partnership with the Finance function to augment the financial reporting package. Over time the Tableau Developer will work with other operational groups to identify trends, and insights.



We are looking for candidates in the local market area, including Boston and Providence. Ideally this will be a fulltime, in-house role - although there may be some flexibility on work days and hours, which may even include a shortened work week

  • Design and create data visualizations (reports and dashboards) as required to support clinical, financial and operational needs
  • Analyze, define requirements, develop and create documentation for dashboards
  • Champion dashboard quality, consistency, usability and reliability by documenting and applying best practices to their design and development
  • Communicate project status, updates and recommendations, to stakeholders
  • Configure, optimize, and maintain Tableau server and clients. Define, execute and interpret nested SQL queries  
  • Establish standards and best practices for requesting, prioritizing and developing dashboards
  • Collaborate with technical staff and end-users to understand and troubleshoot platform issues and develop appropriate solutions


  • Bachelor’s degree required in Computer Science, Business Administration or related field 
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in visual reporting development, including hands on development of analytics dashboards and working with complex data sets
  • Minimum of three (3) years of Tableau development experience.
  • Experience with Tableau v10 desktop and server is required.
  • Expert knowledge of Tableau software optimization and configuration
  • SQL Server expertise, excellent Microsoft Office skills including advanced Excel skills - Crystal Reports knowledge a plus
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, problem solving, and organizational skills; attention to detail; and ability to coordinate multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines
